MARAS: The town of Maras rests at 11,900 feet above sea level and is approximately 30 miles from Cusco. This town was a stop for the mule drivers that transported tropical products and especially the coca leaves from the jungle to city of Cusco and the surrounding towns. It has a church made out of adobe with a cross made out of granite, and contains paintings representing all of the apostles.
Salt mines of Maras: The impressive and complex system of over 3000 small wells used to produce salt, located in the landscape named Qoripujio, at a distance of 2.5 miles from the town of Maras. These mines have been utilized since Incan times as a source of local income. From Maras you can visit the salt mines and see the mules that still carry salt that is extracted from the natural salt mines.
Moray: Moray is located 4.3 miles southwest of Maras at an elevation of 11,100 feet above sea level. Moray is a unique group of archaeological remains, and is the only one of its' kind in this region. It has natural holes as deep as 150 meters with platforms and irrigation paths built around them for agricultural purposes. The interesting thing about these structures is that the temperature varies 59 ºF from the top to the bottom of the holes. Moray is an Inca structure although some argue that the inferior platforms were pre-Inca. It is estimated that the bottom is over a very porous natural rocky formation that makes the filtration cycle occur inside of the land
